Eye Allergy: How to Relieve Itchy and Irritated Eyes From Seasonal Allergies?

Allergy season can wreak havoc on your eyes, making them dry, itchy, swollen and irritated. Talk about a nightmare!

The usual culprits are pollen, dust, mites and pet dander. They trigger the release of histamine, a compound that is not only responsible for fighting off the irritant, but also for causing inflammation and redness in your eyes.

Eye allergies, also known as allergic conjunctivitis, are quite common and usually go hand in hand with a stuffy, runny nose and sneezing.

Here are 5 simple ways to reduce symptoms:

  • Put a chilled gel pack or a cold, wet cloth over your eyes. It can work wonders for reducing unsightly swelling and redness within minutes;

  • Use artificial tear drops and rinse your eyes to wash out allergens;

  • Take out your contact lenses. Allergens love to stick on them;

  • Wear sunglasses when going outdoors;

  • Do not rub or tug at the skin around your eyes; it only increases your discomfort.

If your allergy symptoms are severe, you need a specialist to determine which treatment is best for your conditions.
